About Us

V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports came about after veteran John McMurrin, with over 20 years of off-road racing, saw a need for a resource to assist veterans in the racing community, or ones wanting to get into the racing community. John had been using racing as a form of therapy during his 11 years in the Marine Corps, but after his 5th combat tour brought an abrupt end to his career, it was racing that he used to get him through the very rough sudden transition to civilian life. Once he was able to start getting back on his feet he reached out to other veteran nonprofits to assist in their missions. It was during that time he realized the need for the mission of V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports. That mission being:

To be a resource for veterans in the motorsports racing community providing mentoring, training, specialized loaner gear and equipment, and sponsorship assistance. Be an advocate for veterans, helping them bring their array of skills and knowledge gained in their military service to the racing community. And lastly, to connect racing teams with local veterans by building a network of veterans and supporters across the country.

What Does That Mean?

  • Mentoring and Training – Between the individuals on our board to the supporters in our network, V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports has worked hard to provide training and mentoring, from experienced, professional individuals in the racing community. Veterans just getting into racing to the ones who have been doing it for years. We are able to help advance knowledge and skill in the sport.

  • Source of loaner gear and equipment – As anyone in racing will tell you quality personal safety gear and specialized racing equipment can be very expensive. We work to be able to provide loaner gear and equipment to the veterans at no cost, helping offset some of the costs of racing.

  • Sponsorship assistance – V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports works with companies to provide products to veterans in the racing community at a discounted rate. At the same time, we mentor the veteran on how to work with and cultivate a racer/sponsor relationship, so they can eventually put together their own sponsorships.

  • Veteran Advocates – With board members that are racers and veterans themselves, they know from personal experience what a veteran can bring to any race program. They also know what racing can do to help a veteran, especially one struggling with making the transition from military to civilian life. V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports advocates for our nation’s veterans and service members in the racing community and regularly testify to how the racing community can help them.

  • Support Network – Through all this work, V.E.T.T.S. Motorsports is building a network of veterans and supporters across the country. Race teams wanting to provide opportunities to local veterans can reach out to and we can provide them local veterans that meet the qualifications of the position they are looking to fill. Such as Drivers, Co-Drivers, crew members, etc. That same network also helps veterans by linking them with other veterans and supporters to help them build their teams or put together teams for events.

The ultimate goal is to provide comradery and mission accomplishment that our veterans have lost after leaving the service. A race program in the heat of battle provides the same mission accomplishment and comradery, all while being in a healthy environment surrounded by fellow veterans and/or supporters. We are not alone, we work with many other nonprofits and veteran groups with the ultimate mission of getting as much support as we can to the veterans on the ground.
